Family is an important value in everyone’s life.
This includes Kendre Harrison’s.
Yes, he may be different when you compare him to the average teenager in terms of athletic ability, but he is no different when you compare him to the average teenager in terms of values we all share.
He has people he looks up to, like Kyle Pitts.
He has people he seeks advice from, like his mom.
He has people he wishes he could see just one more time, like his grandpa.
So, when he left Reidsville and moved to Charlotte basically on his own in August, it was an extremely difficult decision for the teenager.
And one that taught him many lessons.
The biggest lesson?
Learning to not take anything for granted.
Learning this lesson is what eventually led him back home to Reidsville.
When asked what the biggest thing he was looking forward to in Reidsville was, his answer was no surprise to me.
"Being with my family and playing with my friends I grew up with is something I look forward to in Reidsville'" Kendre told me at lunch last Friday.
He also emphasized that basketball had no role in his decision to return home.
He is thankful for the Providence Day football program, too. “PD Football is great, and I am glad I got to have the opportunity to play for them.“
Kendre has no idea if he will suit up for his hometown Rams on Friday, but regardless if he does, he will be happy, because there is
no
place
like
home.

I wish Kendre the best of luck in Reidsville.
Also, I would like to thank Kendre for his kindness to everyone at PD and his willingness to let me interview him. He is a good kid. Please respect his decision, remember, he is first and foremost a human being.
